Obtain 6 reproductions (at least 8x11") of one artist's work. Spend 60 school days on these 6 works then ask the child which was their favorite from the collection. Start at age 6 and spend 10 minutes a week studying art.
Have the child really look at the picture, take in every detail. Give him as much time as he needs. Take the print away and look at it yourself so they can't see it anymore. Have them describe what they saw from memory, starting with the youngest child. This will challenge the olders to seek out detail the younger ones may overlook.
Beyond description you may ask what time of day it is, if there isa story behind it, whether they liked it, what feeling it evoked.
Aside from this intense observing, decorate the school room with reproductions of the masters. Visit art galleries so they can see the size of the actual work. When they are much older they can study the technicalities of composition, shading and styles.
